Sydney, Australia is the country’s most populous city and its skyline is probably the most recognisable, yet it is not the capital. That honour falls to Canberra, chosen as a compromise between the two big rivals, Sydney and Melbourne. Don’t let that fact put you off though. Sydney is an incredible city to visit with some spectacular views and a really good quality of life. While the price of flights to Sydney can be high, there are cheap options on sale most of the year round so it’s definitely worth heading out there and seeing the place for yourself.
Sydney is best known for its harbour-front and iconic opera house but there is much more to it than that. It is in the top 15 most visited cities in the world, which is no mean feat given its relative isolation. With natural features such as Sydney Harbour, the Royal National Park, and the Royal Botanic Garden alongside man-made attractions such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Tower and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the city has more than its fair share of sights to see.
If you like beaches then Sydney has some of the best, dotted around its coastline. There is great surf in the area too if you like the more active side of life. It can work out cheaper to find a used surfboard for sale and buy that rather than spending money on renting them. You can always auction off the board when it comes time to leave.
If you like to shop, then Sydney also holds great attraction. The city is dotted with malls and also has more boutique shops available for the fashion-conscious if you head out East towards Bondi Beach.
The only downside to the city, as far as we can see, is that it can be an expensive place to live and travel. Sydney is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world so it pays to watch the pennies while visiting. Thankfully there are ways to save money and find bargains for sale while you are there.
Find a good used for sale website if you need to buy anything, such as the surfboard mentioned above. Buying used clothes from local thrift stores is a good way of getting yourself beach ready at very little cost, too.
There are great budget hostels in the city if you don’t mind sharing a room. Though not the cheapest worldwide, Sydney’s hostels are still the cheapest way to stay in the city if you don’t have any local friends you can crash with.
Whatever you get up to in Sydney, you are sure to have a good time. With so much to see and do, and stunning beaches within easy reach, you’ll find it hard to tear yourself away from this gem of a city.
